I was thinking about the latest Y&K episode, and I realized why it sucked. (No, this didn't take me very long to figure out, but this essay took a while. ^^)I Could Write Something Better Than That! By: Mabis
Anyway, the reason it's so, well, bad is because Yamato and Kosaburou didn't do anything particularly evil or vicious. Sure, they set up a fake breeding center (more on that later) but that's just standard Rocket evilness. The only thing they do that's worth note is tie up their rivals and send them to the storage room. They never really give Satoshi-tachi a hard time. Heck, they don't give Musashi-tachi all that hard of a time either. In the previous episodes they threw everyone in jail, made just about everyone cry, and essentially caused everyone lots of pain and suffering. Not this time. This time, whiny Kasumi's just pissed because her zodiac pokemon is a Garydos. *grumble*
Now, granted, I am only going by an episode guide, and I have yet to see the actual episode. For all I know, Yamato and Kosaburou are a lot more sinister when you actually see them in the ep. (please?) But going by what I've read, it doesn't look good. -_-
Second, I'd like to chew out the writers of this episode. All they did was rehash the original Breeding Center episode and added the bit about the Pokemon fortune telling book. Really lame, in my opinion. They could have done just about anything else with Yamato and Kosaburou, but what do they do? Take the unimaginative, cheap way out. I could of thought of something better in my sleep.
I'll admit it now, I'm more than a little ticked by the fact Yamato and Kosaburou loose to Satoshi, in a Pokemon battle no less. Why did they have to loose that way? Why couldn't it be by something more dramatic, like a big explosion. I know that the explosion was caused by that pathetic egg, and their first episode also had them loose via pokemon battle, but somehow, this is different. This episode emphasized the Pokemon battle too much, in my opinion. The way I see it, Yamato and Kosaburou never really use their Pokemon when confronted by opposition. This does represent a slight departure from the norms of the pokemon world, but I'm going by real life, where a gun is so much more effective than a Raticate when confronted by police. ^^ In this episode, they seem to embrace a Pokemon battle, as opposed to some desperate attempt of resistance as depicted in the first episode. (i.e., they forgot their guns in a desk drawer, and only had Raticate) True, them pulling out guns would be a bit much for the show, which caters to younger viewers, but it would be a lot more plausible than sending out their pokemon.
And finally, why, oh why were they reduced to dressing up as an old couple? The mere thought of it makes me cringe. This is something Musashi and Kojirou do, not Yamato and Kosaburou. Did they loose a bet? Was the boss pissed at them? What did they do wrong to warrant them dressing up as old people? Argh. True, if they didn't dress up, Satoshi-tachi might have recognized them, but that would not have been a problem in the first place if the writers didn't put them in the same Breeding Center scam in the first place. *grumble*
I'll admit, though, it does have it's moments. (All of two, however. -_-) First, Yamato finally defeated her rival Musashi. (Although, if you think about it, neither one of them won in the first episode. They both ended up in jail.) I bet Yamato was happy blasting Musashi-tachi out of the sky. Second, it was revealed just how strong Yamato could be. She threw Kojirou against a wall, and that has to take some effort.
Sadly, though, as a whole, this episode, well, sucked.
Scratch that. To paraphrase Bart Simpson, this episode both sucks
and blows. All I can hope for now is that Yamato and Kosaburou return
with a vengeance in the next episode they appear in, wreaking havoc for
everyone that comes their way. The worst thing that could happen
is that this episode would mark the downward spiral of two of Team Rocket's
most dangerous members. And if that's what happens, someone please
hand me something sharp and pointy to gouge my eyes out, I don't want to
see it.
