My audience were fanfic authors and others who were interested in the details about Ryo in these games, but could not read Japanese or import the games. Or those who simply, did not have the patience to put up with something that demanded so much time and energy. Of course, then I ventured upon a forum where someone had said that my gaming diaries didn't present enough info. You'd think that if there was someone with the info required, others would at least bother to ask said person instead of complaining about it on an unrelated forum. This nagged at me a bit, but it wasn't until someone suggested that I write a walkthrough that I decided to go through with this. So, here we are. For reference, I'm playing the first edition release of Brave Tamer, which came with a Cyberdramon tag and a ZeedMillenniumon card. My Wonderswan Color is the silver Limited Version model made in 2000. This walkthrough will be written with the Japanese names of the digimon in mind, not the English dub names, because I am more familiar with the Japanese names. This walkthrough will focus more on gameplay than the actual story, since translations of key events and some dialogue in the story can be found in the WS Gaming Diaries at: http://syldra.net/yesterday ====================================================================== =Updates (LOG)= ====================================================================== July 5th, 2003 - Finally decided to get off my lazy ass and finish this. It's not entirely finished, but close enough. ====================================================================== =Legalities (LGL)= ====================================================================== This particular Walkthrough for Digimon Tamers: Brave Tamer is by Ajora Fravashi. GameFaqs.com and syldra.net are the sites where this Walkthrough can be found. If you'd like to distribute, feel free, but please let me know whether or not it will turn up on a site other than the ones stated above. And please, do leave it intact. The actual game Brave Tamer is ©Bandai Co., Ltd. 2001, as well as by Akiyoshi Hongo and Toei Animation. The limited pressing release (with the Cyberdramon tag) was on the market on December 29, 2001. If you ever find Brave Tamer on eBay, pay close attention to the release date. Any pressing after December 2001 will NOT have the Cyberdramon tag. Why put this here? I have heard, time and again, of people complaining that the copy they got on eBay didn't have the tag. ====================================================================== =Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)= ====================================================================== These are questions I've either been asked personally or found on a forum or two. Q1 - How do I get rid of that big fat X status? A1 - That's the injured status, marked by a bandage. Until you can get a few Impmon cards (Gold Chip), your best bet is to leave the injured digimon in Deramon's cloak room to recover. It shouldn't take more than ten minutes or so. Q2 - But isn't it Brave Tamers? A2 - No. There is no "zu" katakana at the end of Brave Tamer (Bureibu Teima-). Compare this to D-1 Tamers (Di-wan Teima-zu) and Digimon Tamers (Dejimon Teima-zu). Please get it right. Q3 - How do I get my digimon to evolve? A3 - All digimon in the game evolve to Adult at level 11, Perfect at level 21, and Ultimate at level 31. To those not familiar with the Japanese ranking order for digimon, it's: Baby I (Fresh), Baby II (In- Training), Child (Rookie), Adult (Champion), Perfect (Ultimate), Ultimate (Mega). Familiarize yourself with these, because I refer constantly to the Japanese names. Q4 - How do I get my digimon to Jogress evolve like on the show? A4 - Both digimon must be compatable (i.e. Aquilamon and Tailmon, but not Aquilamon and XV-mon). Both digimon must also be equipped with the PF Evoluter (Kurumon card) and at the same level. Jogress can be done during battle when both digimon are present and the option to Jogress evolve (right under Waza, or Special Skill, in the battle menu) is given. They'll break the Jogress after battle, so don't worry about losing any previously installed cards. Otherwise, if you're looking to simply raise the two digimon to a higher level or something (say, Armadimon and Gomamon), the resultant digimon will evolve to the higher form of whichever digimon is dominant. In the example given, it would be Ankylomon. Q5 - I finished the game. Can I get ZeedMillenniumon in my party? A5 - Indeed you can, if you have the PF Millennium card. This card must be equipped on Cyberdramon only. When it comes time for him to evolve to Justimon, he will instead evolve to ZeedMille. ====================================================================== =Battle Menu Translation (BMT)= ====================================================================== 1) Outside of battle: Joutai (condition): When you selected Joutai, you select the digimon whose stats you want to check on and the submenus "Status," "Plug-in," "Program Inshi," and "Reader Chart" appear. - Status: gives the status of the digimon, including any ailments - Plug-in: displays all the plug-in cards installed. - Program Inshi: displays all the Program Factor cards installed. - Reader Chart: displays the Reader Chart. However, the Digital World soon proved him wrong, and from New Year's Eve of 1999 to the summer of 2000 he had to battle the great evil god Millenniumon with the aid of many digimon. None of them were his real partners, but he never really thought why. He simply had a job: to get rid of Millenniumon. He was only ever called to the Digital World to battle Millenniumon. Then, to his surprise, in D-1 Tamers Millenniumon reveals that they were intrinsically linked. Like yin and yang, one could not exist without the other. To the surprise of everyone who played, the evil god then says "Ryo! Come fly with me in the world of time!" and D-1 Tamers ends with an explosion and the disappearance of Millenniumon and Ryo from the Digimon Adventure universe. Brave Tamer starts with Ryo waking up in an unfamiliar environment: primitive, barren, and empty save for the presence of a single digimon named Monodramon. Monodramon's only task is to take Ryo to the ENIAC, the founder of all the Digital Worlds across the multiverse. The ENIAC reveals that Millenniumon had been blown into the distant future while Ryo was blown into the past. Furthermore, Millenniumon was trying to take over the past by wearing down the ENIAC's defenses. Why do Ryo and Millenniumon have this bond? Why can't Millenniumon ever die? Why is Ryo able to survive explosions that would kill normal kids? What does Millenniumon really want? All this is answered in the game. ====================================================================== =Walkthrough (WT)= ====================================================================== First, I'm running on the assumption that people reading this are more interested in the gameplay than the actual story. With that out of the way, I'm going to hold your hand for the majority of the game and make sure you don't do something silly like sell off potentially indispensible cards without knowing what they're for. Brave Tamer starts off with a recap of the previous game, D-1 Tamers, where Moon-Millenniumon rips open a rift in space-time and drags himself and Ryo through it. In the explosive encounter, Ryo is thrown into the distant past of the Digital World. Monodramon finds him and explains that Zeed Millenniumon is trying to take over the past. He drags Ryo to the ENIAC, who explains that Ryo is amnesiac and here we learn the purpose of the game: restore Ryo's memory and prevent the past from falling into Millenniumon's greedy claws. To achieve this goal, Millenniumon sends various goonies to the past (and conveniently located in a hole in the ground) and Ryo has to beat them. Fairly simple. ______________________________________________________________________ |STAGE 1: Destroyed Crevasse (Hakaisareta Kurebasu) | |Floors: 2 | Chests: 02 | D-ark: 0 | RChart: 0 | CardShp: 0 | Inn: 0 | |Enemies: Kunemon, Kokuwamon, Puchimeramon, Botamon | |Boss: Kuwagamon (HP 504/AP 43/PP 18/SP 5/PA 10/TA 8) | | (Attack: Scissor Arms/Attack type: Resistance) | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Not a large dungeon by any means. You shouldn't have too much trouble getting to Kuwagamon. There's a locked treasure chest you can't get to right now. Don't worry about it until you can get the PicoDevimon card, PF-Thief. If you really want to make things a breeze, buy a PF-AP Plus I card at Nanimon's, equip it on Monodramon at Nanomon's, and maybe do some tinkering with the Reader Chart at Jijimon's. Beware, increasing one stat might decrease another. Kuwagamon isn't very difficult. Dish out Beat Knuckle, and heal with Shadow Wing as needed. With Kuwagamon deleted, you're sent out of the dungeon and back to The Plot. Kurumon arrives at the ENIAC and tells you to go with him through the transporter the ENIAC opens up to other times and mini-universes. Here you'll encounter Takato, Guilmon and another Kurumon being threatened by Impmon. Then when Impmon realizes Ryo & co. are behind him, he'll attack. ______________________________________________________________________ |Mission 1: Save Takato, Guilmon and Kurumon | |Enemy Party: Impmon, Mokumon, PicoDevimon | | Impmon's Attack: Night of Fire (damage-type) | | Mokumon's Attack: Kemuri (resistance-type) | | PicoDevimon's Attack: PicoDarts (random-type) | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ I hope you still have Monodramon equipped with the AP Plus I card, because Impmon's Night of Fire does a painful amount of damage and you'll want to be rid of him as soon as possible. If you're lucky, PicoDevimon's PicoDarts will take out Mokumon for you. Don't be afraid to use Shadow Wing when you need it. After the battle, Takato will thank Ryo for helping them and loan out his D-Arc and Guilmon. The D- Ark is a very useful device, because now you'll be able to use item cards instead of letting them gather dust. You can also scan digimon data and draw up a dungeon map. Huzzah! Plot happens soon enough, as a memory comes to Ryo. The ENIAC reveals some information about the relationship between Millenniumon and Ryo, and urged Ryo to try and remember more. Then it's back to Millenniumon's world. Millenniumon expresses a strange interest in Ryo's progress and sends out Deathmon. Deathmon arrives at the oh so conveniently located hole in the ground, and there you go. ______________________________________________________________________ |STAGE 2: Sinkhole Crevasse (Chinden no Kurebasu) | |Floors: 2 | Chests: 05 | D-ark: 0 | RChart: 0 | CardShp: 0 | Inn: 0 | |Enemies: Candmon, Zurumon, Tsunomon, Numemon, Pagumon, Pichimon, | | Pukamon, Puchimeramon, Punimon, Betamon, Poyomon | |Boss: Deathmon (HP 719/AP 52/PP 26/SP 2/PA 10/TA 12) | | (Attack: Death Arrow/Attack type: Resistance) | |Minions: Pagumon x 2 (HP 143/AP 27/PP 8/SP 20/PA 7/TA 2) | | (Attack: Doku no Awa/Attack type: Damage) | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ You might want to take several trips through this dungeon (and the previous) before taking on Deathmon. Scan digimon data, convert that data to cards at Nanomon's D-Ark shop. Betamon/Kunemon cards are quite useful, because both of them have area attacks that you can add on to your party members. Check the Card Usage segment (PIS) to see what the digimon will convert to as cards. Getting to Deathmon isn't hard, you just have to go up a flight of stairs, drop down a hole, go up another flight of stairs, and drop down another hole. The D-Ark's map should help you with finding your way around. The battle with Deathmon itself shouldn't be too bad either. If you have Electric Thread or Dengeki Biririn on both Guil and Monodra, this battle will be a piece of cake. Afterwards, Kurumon will drag Ryo and co. in for another mission. This time you have to chose which one you want to save, because you can't very well have both. ______________________________________________________________________ |Mission 2: Save Taichi (left), Daisuke (right) | |Enemy Party (left): Etemon, Gazimon x 2 | | Etemon's Attack: Love Serenade (resistance-type) | | Gazimon's Attack: Paralysis Breath (paralysis-type) | |Enemy Party (right): MetalGreymon ER, Gotsumon x 2 | | MetalGrey's Attack: GigaDestroyer (damage-type) | | Gotsumon's Attack: Angry Rock (resistance-type) | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Just a note before we proceed: If you're aiming to jogress anyone, you'll want to keep that in mind when you save the other digimon. Unlike the previous games, Agumon will only jogress with Gabumon, and Vmon with Wormmon. So if you're wanting either Paildramon or Omegamon, keep this in mind. Now, if you go on to save Taichi, you'll want a lot of Slip Chips because if every member of your party is paralyzed, you lose. You'll want to take out the two gazimon out before targetting Etemon. If you go to save Daisuke, keep in mind that MetalGreymon (Evil Ring mode) has a very deadly attack and can do a lot of damage in one shot. Be careful. It would be best to take out the whole party at once and that's easily achieved by having both Monodra and Guil with area attacks. Also nice to have with both battles are Vdramon cards. These cards summon Vdramon to the battle, and it's never a good idea to turn down extra help with more attack power than the current party has. Back to Millenniumon. Millenniumon figures out that Ryo is now enlisting help for the campaign, and decides to draw the party apart by sending three minions to take them on individually. Isn't it nice of him to send all his minions to the same damn place? Yeah. ______________________________________________________________________ |STAGE 3: Divided Crevasse (Bunkatsu no Kurebasu) | |Floors: 3 | Chests: 04 | D-ark: 0 | RChart: 0 | CardShp: 0 | Inn: 1 | |Enemies: Woodmon, Ookuwamon, Kunemon, Jureimon, Snimon, Tanemon, | | Nyokimon, Babumon, Pyokomon, Floramon, Blossomon, Penmon, | | Poromon, Mushmon, Minomon, Yuramon, Leafmon, RedVeggiemon | |Bosses: Kongoumon (HP 972/AP 22/PP 6/SP 10/PA 10/TA 8) | | (Attack: Teppou/Attack type: Damage) | | Coatlmon (HP 729/AP 92/PP 12/SP 10/PA 10/TA 8) | | (Attack: Freeze Web/Attack type: Damage) | | Pharaohmon (HP 963/AP 19/PP 92/SP 2/PA 10/TA 12) | | (Attack: Necro Mist/Attack type: Curse) | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Like I mentioned before, you'll probably want to take several trips through the dungeon before actually proceeding to the stage bosses. Kongoumon might not be too hard, but Coatlmon hits hard and fast, and Pharaohmon has such high defense that you might as well whittle away at his sarcophagus with a butterknife for all the good it would do. So, you'll need cards. Good cards. Jureimon's Cherry Bomb is the best defense you can get against Kongoumon and Coatlmon's attacks at this point. By now you've probably learned that you can jogress cards at Nanomon's D-Ark shop to upgrade them. Suggested formation and combinations for battle with each boss is as follows: Monodramon - PF (AP Plus III, DP Plus III), Plug-in (Cherry Bomb) Agumon/Vmon - PF (AP Plus III, PP Plus III), Plug-in (Shadow Wing) Guilmon - PF (AP Plus III), Plug-in (Poison Smash, Death Charm) The battle with Kongoumon requires a well-rounded digimon, the battle with Coatlmon requires a digimon with high defense and the ability to heal, and the battle with Pharaohmon requires a digimon with high offense power as well as the ability to switch PP (Death Charm) and poison him for extra damage. Their rooms are on the second floor and easily recognizable by a four-way intersection just beyond the lower right-hand corner. Save before you get to it. Afterwards, Ryo is once again dragged into the ENIAC's chamber by Kurumon, and once again you have to choose who to save. ______________________________________________________________________ |Mission 3: Save Sora (left), Miyako (middle), Ruki (right) | |Enemy Party (left): Meramon, Puchimeramon x 2 | | Meramon's Attack: Burning Fist (serial-type) | | Puchimeramon's Attack: Fireball (damage-type) | |Enemy Party (middle): Igamon, Mushmon x 2 | | Igamon's Attack: Shuriken Nage (serial-type) | | Mushmon's Attack: Poison Smash (poison-type) | |Enemy Party (right): Indaramon, Pagumon x 2 | | Indaramon's Attack: Adomukuha (damage-type) | | Pagumon's Attack: Doku no Awa (damage-type) | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ The battle to save Sora is pretty easy. Just keep on attacking. Meramon's Burning Fist is a serial-type skill that allows him to hit twice in a round. Keep this in mind. Want to save Miyako? Bring along some Poison Chips and remember that Igamon's skill is the same type as Meramon's. Want a digimon guaranteed to attack first in every round? Go save Renamon and you won't regret it. This battle with Indaramon, however, is the hardest of the three and Indaramon's Adomukuha does a painful amount of damage. Don't hesitate to enlist the aid of Vdramon cards. And it's back to Millenniumon's, where he wonders to himself why Ryo continues to fight him. Zambamon and Lampmon interrupt him, Lampmon makes an ass of himself, and Millenniumon sends them out to be killed by Ryo. ______________________________________________________________________ |STAGE 4: Crevasse of Two Nails (Futari no Tsume no Kurebasu) | |Floors: 3 | Chests: 07 | D-ark: 1 | RChart: 11 | CardShp: 0 | Inn: 1| |Enemies: Igamon, Upamon, Elecmon, Ookuwamon, Otamamon, Gizamon, | | Cocatrimon, Gokimon, Gotsumon, Chicomon, Choromon, Tsubumon, | | Tortamon, Nyaromon, Bakumon, Hanumon, BigMamemon, Pyokomon, | | Veggiemon, Betamon, Pokomon, Mamemon, Mushamon, MetalMamemon, | | Yukimibotamon, Unimon | |Boss: Lampmon (HP 719/AP 92/PP 26/SP 2/PA 10/TA 48) | | (Attack: Phantom Turban/Attack type: Damage All) | |Minions: BigMamemon x 2 (HP 624/AP 85/PP 20/SP 4/PA 12/TA 56) | | (Attack: B Smiley Bomb/Attack type: Damage All) | |Boss: Zambamon (HP 719/AP 92/PP 26/SP 2/PA 40/TA 12) | | (Attack: Uchikubi Gokumon/Attack type: Damage 1) | |Minions: Mushamon x 2 (HP 504/AP 78/PP 18/SP 5/PA 48/TA 8) | | (Attack: Kirisute Gomen/Attack type: Damage 1) | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Level up, get your digimon to evolve, do whatever you need to do because these bosses are going to be tough. Also, if you really want to survive, grab some Mushamon, convert them and upgrade them to Asuramon cards, and you'll have your handy-dandy PF-Virus cards which elevates resistance to a viral attack by 25%. Or get a Monzaemon card, PF-VirusGearII, for 50% resistance. Also good to have are level 4 PF- PP Plus cards, PF AP Plus cards, and so on. If you were smart and got Renamon, Taomon's Bonhitsusen is very useful, so is the Bakumon card, Nightmare Syndrome. There's also an inn a couple of blocks away from the boss room. Take advantage of it. Lampmon is waiting and eager to turn Ryo over to Millenniumon in hopes of becoming a general in Mille's army. Both him AND his goonies hit hard with area attacks, so be careful and heal when you can. Taomon's Bonhitsusen will render useless one enemy's attack, which makes her a very useful commodity. Afterwards, Zambamon attacks. This battle is somewhat easier in that he and his goons have special skills that only hit one digimon. When those two are defeated, Ryo & co are free to wander for the moment, at least until they wander into the circular transdimensional portal to the Cathode world. A penmon explains that the Cathode world is a mirror image of the Anode world. Reality had briefly split back then, and that Ryo had fought Mille in both worlds but doesn't remember because they were temporary realities. Because of the vast similarities between these realities and because the end result was the same, they collapsed back together. Kurumon, bored, wanders back to the ENIAC's world. Time to save someone else. ______________________________________________________________________ |Mission 4: Save Yamato (left), Ken (middle), Jianliang (right) | |Enemy Party (left): Digitamamon, RedVeggiemon x 2 | | Digitamamon's Attack: Enigma (delete-type) | | RedVeggiemon's Attack: Hazard Breath (resistance-type) | |Enemy Party (middle): Chimeramon, Gazimon x 2 | | Chimeramon's Attack: Heat Viper (damage-type) | | Gazimon's Attack: Paralyze Breath (paralysis-type) | |Enemy Party (right): Gorimon, Gotsumon x 2 | | Gorimon's Attack: Power Attack (accumulation-type) | | Gotsumon's Attack: Angry Rock (resistance-type) | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ If you have Agumon, you'll want to save Yamato, if only for the potential to gain Omegamon. Not a hard battle, but be careful of Digitamamon's Enigma, it will delete an ally's special skill. Or, maybe you're one for nostalgia and get a kick out of Ryo saving Ken. If you have Taomon, use her to render Chimeramon's Heat Viper useless. Wormmon is pretty useless at first, but his final form, Gran Kuwagamon, is so very worth it. He hits fast, hard (Dimension Scissor does 100+ damage), and hits all the enemies at once. If you want none of the above, Terriermon is pretty decent too. Saint Galgomon's Giant Missile is just as potent and covers as much ground as Gran Kuwagamon's attack. Back to the future with Mille, who's contemplating that Ryo cannot be defeated by others. And it turns out that he has an experimental egg to send, his first successful experiment in creating a truly artificial digimon. Now that it's nearing completion, he sends it off. ______________________________________________________________________ |STAGE 5: Black Egg's Crevasse (Kuroi Tamago no Kurebasu) | |Floors: 4 | Chests: 11 | D-ark: 1 | RChart: 0 | CardShp: 0 | Inn: 1 | |Enemies: Gazimon, Kiwimon, Gummymon, Centaurmon, Golemon, Koromon, | | Cyclomon, Tuskmon, Tsunomon, Tyrannomon, Deltamon, Tokomon, | | Triceramon, Drimogemon, Bakemon, Hanumon, Picodevimon, | | Piccolomon, Flymon, Protomon, Mammon, Minotaurmon, Mochimon, | | Monochromon, Leomon, Lopmon | |NOTE: Which boss you face depends wholly on how much fast you can | | make it to the boss's chamber. | |Bosses: | | Within 10 Minutes: | | DarkTyrannomon (HP 378/AP 35/PP 16/SP 4/PA 8/TA 8) | | (Attack: Fire Blast/Attack type: Damage All) | | Over 10 Minutes: | | Skullgreymon (HP 558/AP 47/PP 18/SP 4/PA 12/TA 12) | | (Attack: Ground Zero/Attack type: Damage All) | | Over 20 Minutes: | | BlackWargreymon (HP 1200/AP 62/PP 24/SP 2/PA 11/TA 16) | | (Attack: Gaia Force/Attack type: Damage All) | | Over 30 Minutes: | | BlackWargreymon (HP 2000/AP 82/PP 24/SP 3/PA 17/TA 24) | | (Attack: Gaia Force/Attack type: Damage All) | |Minions: | | Deltamon, Tuskmon. If anyone has exact data for these two, | | please contact me. | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ I hope you still have all your cards installed and everyone at Perfect level or above. Unless you WANT your ass kicked, you have no time to spare for random battles and must get through the dungeon as quickly as possible. Why? The egg hatches the moment you get to the boss's room, and the amount of time you took to get there is a major factor in what boss you have to defeat. Regardless of which you have to face (see chart above), you'll still have to deal with area attacks, Deltamon, and Tuskmon. Use Taomon's attack or Nightmare Syndrome if you have to, it helps. Once through you can go back and take your time to catch digimon for conversion and go experiment in the D-Ark shop. When you're ready to proceed with the story, hop over to the transdimensional gate and you'll run into Kurumon again, who's playing around in the Tag Tamers world. Kurumon suggests to Ryo to go visit Gennai and runs back to the ENIAC's world. Gennai gives his exposition about Tag/D-1 Tamers and encourages Ryo to go back to the ENIAC. You can access a minigame with Gennai here, please refer to the (MRC) section for details. ______________________________________________________________________ |Mission 5: Save Koushiro (left), Jou (middle), Iori (right) | |Enemy Party (left): Andromon, Hagurumon x 2 | | Andromon's Attack: Gatling Missle (damage-type) | | Hagurumon's Attack: Darkness Gear (copy-type) | |Enemy Party (middle): MegaSeadramon, Shakomon x 2 | | MegaSeadramon's Attack: Thunder Javelin (damage-type) | | Shakomon's Attack: Black Pearl (exchange-type) | |Enemy Party (right): Drimogemon, Ganimon x 2 | | Drimogemon's Attack: Drill Spin (resistance-type) | | Ganimon's Attack: Scissors EXC (damage-type) | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ If you don't have a flying digimon yet, go save Koushiro. Not a particularly hard battle. Atlur Kabuterimon's Horn Blaster is quite a respectable area-damage attack similar to Gran Kuwagamon's. But, if you want something else, save Jou and you'll get Gomamon, whose Perfect evolution is a decent area-damage attack and his ultimate form, Plesiomon, raises an ally's PP and SP. However, if you want decent area damage for a minimum amount of DP spent, Ankylomon's Tail Hammer is probably what you're looking for, and if you don't want to wait for him to evolve, stick a PF DM Chishiki on him. You can also grab him and pick up Patamon later for Shakkoumon. And it's back to Mille's place. Oh look, he's been experimenting in cloning *humans*. The first experimental clone steps forward, and Millenniumon sends it off to buy time for the other clones to reach maturity. The first clone's silhouette should be very familiar. ______________________________________________________________________ |STAGE 6: Trap Crevasse (Wana no Kurebasu) | |Floors: 4 | Chests: 11 | D-ark: 1 | RChart: 1 | CardShp: 0 | Inn: 0 | |Enemies: Wizardmon, ExTyrannomon, Etemon, Garbamon, Gigimon, | | KingEtemon, Gekomon, Gotsumon, Jarimon, Sukamon, Starmon, | | Jellymon, Chibimon, DeathMeramon, Deramon, ToyAgumon, Nanimon, | | Bakemon, Pumpmon, Pinocchimon, Phantomon, Puchimeramon, Flymon, | | Penmon, Mummymon, Meramon, Revolmon, Reremon, WaruMonzaemon | |Bosses: Airdramon x 3 (HP 788/AP 43/PP 18/SP 5/PA 10/TA 10) | | (Attack: Spinning Needle/Attack type: Damage All) | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ No conveniently-placed inns here, so take some time to stock up on recovery items. Suggested: at least one digimon with the SP Slip (Deramon) card and everyone with the PF Vaccine Gear II (Centaurmon) card installed. Feel free to level and capture digimon to bulk up the card collection. Along the way you'll notice a gekomon colony and a few of them will mention that they were going to set up a new nation in this crevasse. Utterly pointless, but kinda cute. Beware of Phantomon's Soul Chopper (instant death in 3 turns) and Flymon's Deadly Sting (paralysis). When all is said and done, the boss room is occupied by three airdramon that attack the moment Ryo enters. When they're defeated, the clone is defeated, and it turns out to be a clone of the Digimon Kaiser. After he reveals that he was simply buying time for Millenniumon, he disintegrates into digital dust and it's back to the ENIAC's world. Wander if you like. but once through the circular gate it's back to the storyline and exposition by three kids from the D-1 Tournament. And, of course, they explain the D-1 Tournament. It's back to the ENIAC's world after this, and time to save someone else. ______________________________________________________________________ |Mission 6: Save Takeru (left), Hikari (middle), Mimi (right) | |Enemy Party (left): Devimon, Devidramon x 2 | | Devimon's Attack: Death Claw (resistance-type) | | Devidramon's Attack: Crimson Nail (trigger-type) | |Enemy Party (middle): Vandemon, PicoDevimon x 2 | | Vandemon's Attack: Night Raid (resistance-type) | | Picodevimon's Attack: Pico Darts (random-type) | |Enemy Party (right): Monzaemon, ToyAgumon x 2 | | Monzaemon's Attack: Lovely Attack (hold-type) | | ToyAgumon's Attack: Toy Flame (damage-type) | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ If you STILL don't have a flying digimon, go save Takeru and get Patamon. A few area-damage attacks should do the trick. And I hope you like having a healer in your party, because Seraphimon's special technique restores a lot of HP of everyone in the party. Vandemon and his goons do hit hard, so be prepared if you want to save Tailmon. She has the highest overall DP of the lot and starts off with fairly high stats. Worth it if you decide to get her. If you want to save Mimi and get Palmon, it's not as hard a battle as the one for Tailmon, but it is harder than the one for Patamon. If you enjoy poisoning the enemy party, Palmon's Poison Ivy is a joy to have. Also, Togemon and Lilymon have respectable area-damage attacks. Huh, how many "Back to the Future" jokes can I make before someone decides to come at me with a pitchfork? Anyway, Millie's clones have reached maturity, and he sends them out to go play in the ENIAC's world. When they arrive, they're mistaken for the real Taichi, Daisuke and Takato, at least until Monodramon sniffs at them and discovers that they have the enemy's smell. It's too late, and they manage to shut down the ENIAC. But wait, what's that? Something's preventing Millenniumon from going to take over the past. Meanwhile, the ENIAC reveals that it wasn't the first computer. Though history usually hails it as the first digital computer, the Atanasoff-Berry computer predates it by only a few years. Millenniumon realizes this and orders his clones to attack the Atanasoff's world, which was hidden in the shadows of the ENIAC's world. So, three crevasses appear and the ENIAC opens a portal to the Atanasoff's world. Ikuzo! ______________________________________________________________________ |STAGE 7: Dark Taichi's Crevasse (Ankoku Taichi no Kurebasu) | |Floors: 5 | Chests: 12 | D-ark: 2 | RChart: 2 | CardShp: 0 | Inn: 2 | |Enemies: Anomalocarimon, Ebidramon, Octomon, Ganimon, Gizamon, | | Gesomon, Seadramon, Coelamon, Shellmon, Shakomon, Dagomon, | | Pukamon, Pukumon, Betamon, Whamon, MarineAngemon, MarineDevimon, | | Megaseadramon, MetalSeadramon, Rukamon | |Boss: VR-Omega (HP 1039/AP 52/PP 26/SP 2/PA 11/TA 13) | | (Attack: Garuru Cannon/Attack type: Damage 1) | | VR-Apocaly (HP 831/AP 52/PP 26/SP 2/PA 11/TA 13) | | (Attack: Ankoku/Attack type: Funou) | | VR-WarGrey (HP 896/AP 52/PP 26/SP 2/PA 11/TA 16) | | (Attack: Gaia Force/Attack type: Delete All) | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Before we proceed: I hope you have everyone with the PF Virus Gear II if you want to get away with minimal damage. Get used to bizarre floors, you're going to run into a lot. At least here it isn't so bad, there will just be a few narrow passages. This dungeon is particularly annoying because the boss's room is on the first floor, but cannot be accessed through methods other than running around like a chicken with its head cut off and going up and down several floors just to get to it. At least there are a couple of inns along the way. Grab a Marine Devimon and Pukumon along the way, you're going to need their cards later. When you reach the boss room, you go up against a trio of artificial digimon: VR Omega, VR Apocaly, and VR WarGrey. Render VR WarGrey's attack useless before he can delete any of your party's attacks, then take out VR Apocaly's attack. Nightmare Syndrome is your friend. The battle shouldn't take long if everyone's at Perfect level or higher. Once evilTaichi is defeated, go to stock up on the item cards and convert/equip the Pukumon card before taking on... ______________________________________________________________________ |STAGE 8: Dark Daisuke's Crevasse (Ankoku Daisuke no Kurebasu) | |Floors: 5 | Chests: 8 | D-ark: 1 | RChart: 1 | CardShp: 0 | Inn: 1 | |Enemies: Evilmon, Vandemon, Ogremon, SkullSatamon, SkullMammon, | | Devitamamon, Devidramon, Devimon, Dokugumon, Pagumon, Bakemon, | | Picodevimon, Phantomon, Vadermon, Penmon, Mummymon, Mojamon, | | Yukidarumon, Raremon, LadyDevimon | |Boss: VR-Imperial (HP 1039/AP 55/PP 27/SP 2/PA 11/TA 13) | | (Attack: Omega Blade/Attack type: Resistance) | | VR-Venom (HP 768/AP 52/PP 26/SP 2/PA 11/TA 13) | | (Attack: VenomInfuse/Attack type: Resistance) | | VR-BWarGrey (HP 768/AP 52/PP 26/SP 2/PA 11/TA 16) | | (Attack: Gaia Force/Attack type: Damage All) | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ If you ignored me and didn't get a Pukumon card, you are an idiot. This dungeon has ice-covered floors, which means you're in for a hell of a lot of slipping and sliding past exit corridors and your destination. At least evilDaisuke has the grace not to sit in the first floor. Instead, he's in the middle of basement 3. Here you get to take on VR Imperial, VR Venom, and VR BWarGrey. Be careful with VR BWarGrey, he has an area-damage attack and it does a lot of damage. With evilDaisuke defeated, it's off to the last remaining crevasse in the Atanasoff-Berry's world. I hope you have a PF Controller card (Elecmon) and it's equipped, because now it's on to... ______________________________________________________________________ |STAGE 9: Dark Takato's Crevasse (Ankoku Takato no Kurebasu) | |Floors: 5 | Chests: 14 | D-ark: 1 | RChart: 1 | CardShp: 0 | Inn: 1 | |Enemies: Andromon, Evamon, Guardromon, Kapurimon, Giromon, Clockmon,| | Kokuwamon, Tankmon, Choromon, Nanomon, HighAndromon, Hagurumon, | | Boltmon, Megadramon, Mechanorimon, MetalEtemon, MetalTyrannomon | |Boss: VR-Duke (HP 727/AP 41/PP 26/SP 2/PA 11/TA 13) | | (Attack: Final Elysian/Attack type: Recovery) | | VR-Sakuya (HP 672/AP 41/PP 26/SP 2/PA 11/TA 13) | | (Attack: Kongoukai Mandala/Attack type: Inst.Death) | | VR-SaintGalgo (HP 672/AP 41/PP 26/SP 2/PA 11/TA 13) | | (Attack: Giant Missile/Attack type: Damage All) | |Boss2: VR-CDuke (HP 1169/AP 55/PP 26/SP 2/PA 11/TA 13) | | (Attack: Quo Vadis/Attack type: Revival) | | VR-Sakuya (HP 864/AP 52/PP 26/SP 2/PA 11/TA 13) | | (Attack: Kongoukai Mandala/Attack type: Inst.Death) | | VR-SaintGalgo (HP 864/AP 52/PP 26/SP 2/PA 11/TA 13) | | (Attack: Giant Missile/Attack type: Damage All) | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Notice the yellow floors? Those are marked as the "short circuit" floors, meaning that unless you have the PF Controller card installed on someone in your party, the moment you step into the rooms with yellow floors, the right button is going to be remapped as left, the up button will be remapped as down, and so on. And this is totally random, so you may have the right button remapped as up and the up button remapped as left. Also, be careful with the monsters here. Tankmon's Hyper Cannon WILL delete any installed attack cards, so take him out as fast as you can. Now it should be pretty clear from the chart that there will be two boss battles. For both you'll want to use Nightmare Syndrome on VR Sakuya in the first few rounds, then VR SaintGalgo. This battle is much more difficult than the ones with the previous clones, but if you keep on your toes and heal when necessary, you should be okay. When the dungeon is cleared, it's back to the ENIAC's world and the infections in the Atanasoff's world close up. However, it's a little too late and in a last ditch effort, the ENIAC must open up a portal directly to Millenniumon's world, using the last of its power. And, to stabilize the portal, a few digimon must be converted to cards and sacrificed. The higher the card's rank, the more time Ryo can spend in Millenniumon's world without becoming lost in time. A Rank 1 card (say, Baby I) will buy two minutes, rank 2 will buy 3, rank 3 will buy 5, rank 4 will buy 7, rank 5 will buy 10, rank 6 will buy 14, and rank 7 will buy 18. But I'd suggest buying about three Clockmon cards, because while they might be rank 3 and are rather expensive, they also buy about 30 minutes each. And once you're stocked up, rested, have your final party at relatively high levels (I suggest Ultimate. And having Seraphimon to recover 200+ HP), it's time to challenge the final boss in his own lair. Save before you enter the portal to Milleniumon's world, because there is NO turning back and no saving allowed in the dungeon. And remember: TAKE MONODRAMON WITH YOU. Without Monodramon, the final battle does not happen. ______________________________________________________________________ |STAGE 10: Millenniumon's World (Mireniamon no Sekai) | |Floors: 5 | Chests: 12 | D-ark: 1 | RChart: 1 | CardShp: 1 | Inn: 2 | |Enemies: Ashuramon, Arachnemon, Vandemon, Chimeramon, KingEtemon, | | Griffomon, Crossmon, Goddramon, SkullSatamon, Devimon, Devidramon| | Dokugumon, Knightmon, HighAndromon, Piemon, Pinocchimon, Mummymon| | Mugendramon, Megadramon, MetalGreymonER, MetalTyrannomon, | | LadyDevimon | |Boss: ZeedMillenniumon (HP 1299/AP 57/PP 30/SP 2/PA 11/TA 13) | | (Attack: TimeDestroyer/Attack type: Funou) | | Armagemon (HP 1039/AP 55/PP 27/SP 2/PA 11/TA 13) | | (Attack: Armageddon Fire/Attack type: Damage All) | | Diablomon (HP 1039/AP 55/PP 27/SP 2/PA 11/TA 13) | | (Attack: C Cannon/Attack type: Delete) | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ The dungeon has the following damage floors: poison, ice, fire, and leaking electricity that will remap those directional buttons. Suggested Program Factor cards: PF Controller, PF Spike Shoes, PF Sonic Shoes, PF Delete, and heighten defenses (PF HP and PP Plus IV cards). Also, have at least 5 Stinky Breath cards handy. The monsters here are all at Perfect and Ultimate levels, so you want to get through this dungeon as fast as possible with the minimum amount of random encounters (which the Stinky Breath/Sukamon cards will prevent for a limited amount of time before wearing out). Also, time is at the essence and just try to survive long enough to get to Millenniumon before it runs out and Ryo gets lost in time. Millenniumon that he believes that he and Ryo lead an existence that cannot be separated, like yin and yang, and that no one can defeat them but each other. Then he attacks, and he and his cronies swipe so hard that your party is soon out like a light. Don't worry though, that's supposed to happen. Millenniumon says that he cannot be destroyed in battle, but Monodramon challenges him, saying that it doesn't matter, he cannot win. Millenniumon reveals that he and Ryo "could have been the best partners" and with that line answers the question of WHY Ryo never had a permanent digimon partner: Millenniumon was his partner all along. Ow. Then Monodramon, in surprise, says that he feels the beginning of a Jogress sequence and they must reduce Millenniumon's strength before it can do any good. This time around, Millenniumon, Armagemon and Diablomon don't hit so fast and hard. Use Nightmare Syndrome to render useless Diablomon's attack first, then ZeedMillenniumon's and Armagemon's. That done, it's not too difficult to wipe them out if your party was prepared. When his party falls, Millenniumon and Monodramon jogress and leave a gold and purple banded digiegg. Sit back and enjoy the ending. Like all the Ryo games, you have the option to go back and dungeon trawl and pick up any items/digimon/cards you didn't get the first time around. Real fun can be had when you install the PF Millennium card on Cyberdramon. ====================================================================== =The Digimon Index (DCI)= If you decide to go the way of emulation, be warned that both Cygne and WSCamp are processor- intensive and the gameplay will be extremely lagged and erratic if played on an older computer. If at all possible, I recommend getting a WSC and the actual cart. They can be taken anywhere and used at any time, there's no lag time, and chances are you'll be less likely to get carpal tunnel. ====================================================================== =Credits (CR)= ====================================================================== Thanks to... Meimi/Ereshkigal - For playing the emulator when I won't even bother with it (my computer is the bastard offspring of ENIAC and Atanasoff, and thus takes forever and a day to run any program). Also very supportive throughout my endeavors. Kokopelli - For info regarding the creation and purpose of the ENIAC, which was integral in my understanding of what the hell is going on. Kourika and Graywords - For help in translating the really weird wording and tense changes that certain characters like to use.
