Digimon Tamers

Digimon Tamers 39: Dancing While Scattering Ultimate Flowers! Sakuyamon Evolution

Oh lord, talk about a clunky title.

The episode begins with Kurumon trying to climb out of his prison, the eyecatch, and Qinglongmon bundles up the Tamers in a cloud and flies off with them. Within the cloud, Takato tries to ask Juri how she's doing, only to get some angst in response.

Ah, inadequacy issues... Off in Baihumon's realm, Cyberdramon and Ryo finally meet up with Baihumon, who promptly topples over close by. Cyberdramon seems to be more interested in challenging the quantum jell-o than the Holy Beasts. Xuanwumon explains that Baihumon is exhausted from the battle with the true enemy, Cyberdramon figures it's too powerful for him to fight, and they take off.

When mutant jell-o attacks! Back at the center of the realms, the Tamers are dropped off on a floating rock within the crevasse, where they get to see the D-Reaper bubbles at work up close and personal. What a trip, eh? Zhuqiaomon flies in, Qinglongmon drives the floating rock into a wall, Ryo drops by and verbally spars with Ruki, and Zhuqiaomon returns sans a wing.

And a hundred fanboys wanked over Ruki 'going soft.' After a quick shot of Kurumon struggling up the passage, the Tamers decide to rescue him. Except for Juri, who's too caught up in her own angst and keeps going on about fate. Ruki decides to take fate into her own hands and go into the lion's den herself, and is followed by an overly concerned Ryo. She asks Renamon about fate, and during the discussion, Kurumon turns up and hops into Ruki's arms. Nice reunion and all, but then a bubble takes out Ruki's backpack and Ryo yanks them into a crack in the rock wall.

I love you dearly, Ryo, but sometimes you're such a dumbass Ryo buys time for them to escape by using the Knight Device card to render a pair of lances to act as braces for the rock pile Cyberdramon makes to slow the bubbles' progress. This, unfortunately, doesn't work for long and Ryo's guantlet ends up as another casualty to the quantum jell-o.

SEXY Ruki finally decides to take destiny into her own hands, leaves Kurumon with Ryo, and takes a flying leap to what would have been her death had she not matrix evolved with Renamon. It is, hands down, the best evolution sequence in the entire show. Sakuyamon's attack dissolves enough of the bubbles to clear everyone out, and they return to Zhuqiaomon's realm.

Is it bad that I want to read Ruki/Juri into this? Juri runs up to Ruki once they land, hugs her, and looks sadly at Kurumon. Kurumon probably figures that this isn't the happy-go-lucky girl who shared food with him before. Suddenly there's a geyser of that quantum jell-o, which takes out the device that had been sealing it. The jell-o then scatters and a blob lands near Juri's foot. Keep an eye on this blob!
